No More Broken Glass Globes
Fits Like A Glove. I grabbed this because I do lot's of motorcycle camping and got tired of trying to protect the inherent fragility of a glass globe. Packing this in a motorcycle bag became a complete nightmare. Even with all the precautions, I'd still eventually end up with a broken globe at some point. Haven't noticed any significant drop in luminescence and overall brightness. Very pleased.

Read my description first !
First of all I would like to say that this is a top quality project product, and should last much longer than my lifetime. The height is exactly right for a Coleman propane or gasoline lantern, but the diameter is approximately one 16th of an inch greater than the lip of the top and the base of the lantern to fit. It’s too big and will not fit at all, unless you make a V crimp crimp with some vise grip pliers and then extend the crimp at the top and bottom of the screen through the height of the screen. This effectively shortens the circumference and will allow it to fit a Coleman propane or gasoline lantern. I put the area of the crimp behind the generator , (which is the vertical post that goes up and curves over into which the mantels are attached), thinking that if there was a dimutation in brightness as there is already a shadow there, but when I ignited the lantern it made no difference whatsoever in the crimp Was totally inconsequential and diminishing the brightness of the lantern. I had bought two, one is a spare for another lantern. With about 10 minutes work, it works perfectly.

Good Value for a replacement globe
I picked this up to replace a globe in my coleman 5154 097c dual mantle lantern. works great. The only "con" i can into is the diameter is not quite perfect for the colemans. It's a few mm bigger in circumference but you can fit it without any major problems. As for the concern that the light is diminished - maybe by 5%. Went camping with my Scouts and had this on one lantern and a regular glass globe on another. Barely a difference in brightness within 50 feet. Bonus, when putting lanterns away, this actually cools quicker than a glass globe.

Works great
Perfect fit for my Coleman Model 5154B700 double mantle propane lantern requiring a #R214A046C globe. Haven't used it in the wind but otherwise seems perfect.

was able to fit an old centuri lamp
My best lantern fell and broke the glass, it appears it's not made anymore so replacement became a challenge. This was the right diameter but a little tall, was easy to cut a couple of notches to make it fit. I could have gone all out and trimmed to height, but am lazy and also thought the rigidity of the fold may be important. now its ready for next time its needed

Not a perfect fit, not as bright but it works
I purchased this globe as a less expensive replacement for the glass on my older Coleman propane lantern; the first generation push-button ignition type. I also wanted to find a product to keep around as a spare in case a globe was broken while camping. The glass ones are just too delicate and expensive to simply drop in my camping box. This wire mesh globe was not a perfect fit (slightly smaller), but with a little adjusting, I got it to fit well enough. Of course it's not going to be as bright as glass but I expected that. The upside for me (and a big one), is that it WORKS. I did have to light the lantern with a match but that could just as well be an issue with the igniter; it's old and sticks. The lantern still gives off plenty of light and best of all, I no longer have to be overly concerned with breaking and having to find more expensive glass replacements. I will be buying a couple more of these mesh globes as spares and expect to them to be on all of my lanterns before long.

wish i'd have found this years, and many glass globes, ago...but might not be good for ice fishing
i can't tell you how many glass globes i've broken. the last one made it almost 6 whole hours. i was pretty ticked off and when i searched for some sort of relief from my clumsiness, and i found this. it worked great. it did everything you'd think it would. if it cut down on the light any, i couldn't tell. i feel like propane lanterns are crazy (often annoyingly) bright anyway. the screen did get discolored from use, but who cares? i will say that i have not yet tried it in heavy wind, but will come ice fishing season. i'm pretty sure some aluminum foil will fix any issues i have. and, for all the money i'll save on glass globes, i can buy a wind screen. oh, and i put this on a standard coleman 2 mantle propane lantern. it also fit some cheap ozark trail 2 mantle propane lantern i had kicking around as well. edit: 3/21/14 after taking this out ice fishing this year, i found a weakness. it was pretty cold, close to 0 deg F, and my lantern just wouldn't go. the other lantern, with a glass globe, worked fine...like every other lantern i've ever used on the ice. what actually happened was ice must have built up somewhere inside, b/c after repeated attempts to light, it finally did...by the knob on the valve. not cool. i took it home, disassembled and cleaned it, and got it to work fine in the garage. i think it was just too cold. i'm taking off a star because not working in the cold is no good, but only one because i imagine this won't be an issue for most people.

Fits fine on a coleman double globe
I have an "old" Coleman double globe propane lantern (perhaps circa ~2001) and based on the reviews, I was afraid it would not fit. The idea of never having to replace the glass again was attractive though and the price was right, so I gave it a shot. What I can say is that the globe seems to be ever so slightly wider on the "top" vs the bottom. The first time I tried to install it, it was too tight and I was having trouble getting it to fit into the base of my lantern. Then I flipped it over and it fit like a glove. Now I'm really happy with it! I like that it cuts the light and it's not so harsh to look directly at the light anymore. Overall light output is diminished, but I don't really run my lamp full bright anyways and always wanted a a low setting that was dimmer and this does exactly that. I would buy this again

Better than glass!
Fits my 'Coleman 1 Mantle Classic' naptha lantern almost perfectly. It has a slightly larger diameter than the glass but that doesn't matter much on this lantern as there is room for it. Not quite as bright of course but the durability more than makes up for it. I don't like to carry glass into the woods at all, so this finally allows me to take my lantern into the backcountry. 4 stars because the build quality isn't the greatest, kinda cheaply put together but that doesn't really affect the use at all, I just think it should be cheaper for what it is.

Having recently broken two globes this unit has been a god send. Not as bright as a glass globe as expected but still plenty of light plus you know it will be intact when you arrive at camp. Mantles may not make it but the mesh globe will.

Durable and works great!
Fit great on my woods brand lantern. Had to replace the glass dome after I dropped the lantern and thought this would be more durable. Great investment!
