NYLON-COVERED STEEL CABLES FOR SECURITY Thule 831 and 832 10-foot and 13-foot Locking Straps are heavy-duty lockable load straps. They are designed for all manner of load and hauling applications, including securing kayaks, canoes and other gear safely to your vehicle's base rack system. They are constructed of an interior steel band and are sheathed in an outer nylon sleeve. Rubberized ends ensure that secured items are not scratched during use, and dependable Thule One-Key lock cylinders (included), are attached within the rubberized ends to lock items down tight. Two straps are included with purchase. A 2-pack of nylon-covered steel straps, with lockable ends that are designed to secure valuable items. ABOUT THULE Thule was founded in 1942 by the Thulin family, when Eric Thulin, a true lover of the outdoors, put the Thule name on a pike trap he designed and began to sell in Scandinavia. It wasn't long before he added other practical items to the company's portfolio. By the 1960s, the company began to concentrate on car-related products, including its first roof rack. The Thulin family sold Thule to the publicly listed company Eldon in 1979, and it has continued to grow both organically and through acquisitions ever since. The Thule Group is a world leader in providing transport solutions for an active life.

Two One-Key lock cylinders included. Lock housing rubber-coated to prevent vehicle and equipment scratches. Lightweight and corrosion resistant aluminum buckle. Steel cables inside a theft-resistant nylon sleeve provide a dual-layer locking system. Two 13-ft (3.9 m) locking straps.

Quality straps
I have bought two different brands of lockable kayak straps. Both began to fray after a few uses. I decided to try the Thule and love them. They are very well built and definitely are easy to use. I use Nite-eze ties to secure the extra length so I don't have to tie them. I think that will make them last longer.

Nice, but don't last. Another update
I have 3 Canulocks and 3 of these. After about a year, these have wires poking out and they are 1. Very painful when they jab your fingers while trying to thread the strap. 2. Not really fixable 3. A pain to return. For money, these should hold up better. Update, I did go through warranty and they said they would send me a replacement. I began this process over a month ago and have not received anything yet. Annoying. When I contact them, they are kinda slow getting back to me. Annoying. Thule does act like they don't have to care TOO much. Update 2022 I’ve dealt with Thule a lot and so I’ll stick by what I say about the “care” they show for their customers- they make it a little painful. Nevertheless they did replace the one that was worn. I haven’t had a problem with others so far. And I must say I have stuck with these over kanulock because once kanulock was bought by another vendor they would not match keys for me. So if I had several locks I needed to carry several keys. Thule, to their credit, will let you use one key for everything. In the end they did show better support for my needs. Kanulock was just lazy.

Pretty good, but I expected more for the money
When locked, it's still possible to loosen the straps by a few millimetres, which in some applications would make wriggling some assets free possible. I'm also not sure how difficult it really would be to simply cut through the straps. But they do work pretty well, look better than the ropes I was using before, and I've driven from Austin to San Francisco with them on the roof, and they're still as good as new, so I'm keeping mine. I'm just not sure I'd recommend them for preventing truly valuable assets from getting nicked, considering they cost eighty bucks themselves.

Great for protecting my items while traveling
There are many excellent reviews outlining the pros ands con for this product already. I definitely see how the lock may be easily picked by someone with the knowledge of how to do so or the cable cut with a pair of bolt cutters. If you accept those limitations, then it's otherwise a very nice strap. The padding protects the items I am securing and the tightening and locking mechanism are very easy to use. I am using the straps to secure my load while I am traveling and prevent any snatch and grab opportunist. The Thule straps fit this need perfectly. If you are trying to protect what you are strapping down for longer periods and the items are often unattended, then something heavier duty might be needed.

Sturdy, strong, ease of use, great!
This product is sturdy, easy to use. The simplicity of design is great. Knowing we can leave the paddle board and kayaks locked on the car overnite, ( because we're going out again next day) is peace of mind! We even bought a set for our daughter, and tell everyone that asks about the straps how marvelous they are! Buy these :-). PS. We live in the mountains where we can leave or sups on our car!

Not bad pretty impressed.
These things are amazing. I would definitely recommend them. However I would have to warn you the ones I purchased I used them to secure my Yak to my car and I had about a foot to maybe a foot and a half left. So if you need to secure something on a wider scale like on a trailer or something you might want to go with the longer one that is available.

Doesn't seem secure returned
I wouldn't trust these to keep much safe. The plastic cover that protects the release mechanism seemed very weak and offered little in the way of protection. You could peal back the cover easily. Returned these without use.

Worked once then fell apart
It worked great the first time. Second time locking up the kayaks the top locking part flew off into the murky river never to be seen again. Will be contacting Thule for a replacement. Fingers crossed. I’m not that strong. Shouldn’t have happened.

Feels much more secure!
We're fairly new to kayaking and wanted to start exploring outside from where we live. Having these to protect our kayaks takes a load off our minds. They were a bit more expensive than what we hoped to pay but it's Thule, we trust the brand. We just need to have the lock cylinders changed to match our crossbars and J-Bars.

How Does this Happen?
I bought these straps with the lock to prevent theft of kayaks.I recently rented an RV trailer. So I reach into my pocket to unlock these locks and by mistake pull out the RV key and guess what it opens the locks? What are the chances of that! Not impressed with quality of this locking system.

Simple and secure
Essential if you are concerned about theft in some areas. If used in conjunction with other Thule security gizmos (which can be expensive!), So much better than all the "home made" solutions I have seen/experimented before. Only issue is that you yet another Thule key for one of numerous Thule gadgets you might have.

Cable in the strap is a bit small and could most luckily be cut still but a good deterrents.
Work well for it's intended use. Cable in the strap is a bit small and could most luckily be cut still but a good deterrents.
