Solid planer with some quirks
This planer has features that no other planer on the market currently has. However, that comes with some things that could have been done better. First, the manual. Man does this thing suck! But in all honesty, there's not much to this unit so if you're using a tool like this, then chances are you can figure everything out. The 3 bladed drum is really nice and yields a very smooth finish while throwing off a ton of chips. Some people have complained about the safety switch ergonomics or lack of a trigger lock. I've found no issue here, unless you're left handed. Look, if you think you need a trigger lock for a powered hand planer, then you likely don't see the danger around the corner with that. Press the safety with your thumb, pull the trigger and away she goes. Once the trigger is engaged the safety can be released and I find that if you choke up on the handle and use your middle finger it becomes easier to maneuver. The front bailing handle is great! Powered hand planers tend to have torque steer due to the high rotational speed working under your hands. This bailing handle makes it super manageable. The unlimited rebate allows you to get flush to an edge in a rabbeted feature. I haven't tried this with the fence yet so I cant comment there. The sanding drum is a really nice feature although the assembly could have been designed better. It may slip off the drum in operation so make sure you use spray adhesive to secure it to the aluminum drum. (3M Super 77) Buying additional sanding sleeves is another story. It appears they only sell 80 Grit and they sell it with the aluminum drum for about $15 each which is ludicrous. Overall it's a solid unit that has some minor issues but fantastic performance and unique features. Go for it!

Had to review to offset the low review on here... EDIT: 0/5
UPDATE: The guard flew off, making it super dangerous. My spindle was stuck. CS wouldn't return my calls or voicemails. They don't seem to care about the customer at all. Never buy Triton. This is one of the worst consumer experiences I've had. I was overjoyed with it at first. Then, in less than 20 min, it died on me. Red oak, no less. A good lesson to not review too quickly. 0/5. Needing a planer, I was first looking at the Makita, both the 6.5amp and the slightly bigger one, just like I was looking at the bigger Triton. This thing is already plenty big, so for my purposes, I'm glad I got this one. The motor position is a little unusual, and as another reviewer said, it does have some quirks -- which they covered well, so I wont get into that -- overall, really smooth action. Very pleased. The third blade is such a nice feature. I have no issue with the plastic quality; the plastic that moves over the spinning cylinder with the blades you lift to change it out is a bit lacking... could be a bit more robust, I SUPPOSE, but it isn't the end of the world. I haven't tried the sanding feature yet, but that's not what I bought it for. The planing is smooth and forgiving, serves my purpose well. I like it. The 3 year warranty is also nice. I still give it 5 stars, but my only real gripe is that I wish it came with a case.

Powerful and balanced.
Product as described, great balance. Catch bag works great but requires continuous emptying. Dust collector a must. Easy remove and replace to sanding function. The Triton brand is becoming an important partner.
