PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The Victor Heavy-Duty Sonic Pest Chaser Rodent Repeller emits high frequency sound waves that effectively repel rodents from protected areas. With more than 2 times the power output of standard ultrasonic pest control units, this PestChaser is ideal for use in larger rooms, such as kitchens, garages, attics and basements. A 6 ft. cord enables ideal placement. The sound is completely inaudible to people and non-rodent pets. Varying intensity and frequencies of ultrasonic sound waves prevents rodents from getting used to the Victor Sonic PestChaser. Since the sound is inaudible, a red LED light tells you the unit is working properly. It's kinder than traps, safer than poisons when used as directed, and there are no dead rodents to dispose of, so it minimizes human contact with mice, rats, and other disease-bearing rodents. Reduction in rodent activity should occur within 6-10 days. Estimated service life of the unit is 5-7 years or more. Note: Ultrasonic sound cannot penetrate furniture, cabinets or walls. Multiple units required for multiple rooms. AMAZON.COM With more than twice the power of standard ultrasonic rodent control units, the Victor Heavy-Duty Sonic PestChaser is one of the most powerful electronic pest control devices on the market. Use the PestChaser to repel rodents safely, economically, and effectively with high-frequency sound waves. Get rid of rodents without any messy traps to empty. The 6-foot power cord allows for ideal placement. You won't hear a thing, and you won't have to worry anymore about rodents in your home. Just plug the 6-foot power cord into regular wall outlet and then place the unit in the ideal location. Field tests conducted for the Canadian Registration showed a marked reduction in rodent activity in an average of 6 to 10 days. The PestChaser's high-frequency ultrasound doesn't kill rodents, but rather creates an environment that is uncomfortable for them, so they simply leave. Its complex, non-repetitive frequency features multiple peaks between 32 and 62 kHz, so rodents don't have the chance to get used to the sound.Safe for You and Your Pets The ultrasonic sound waves are completely inaudible to people, dogs, cats, birds, and fish (PestChaser should not be used around pet rodents). Since you won't hear anything, a red LED light behind the speaker grill lets you know that the PestChaser is working properly. The Heavy-Duty PestChaser is kinder than traps and safer than poison. By eliminating the need to empty traps, PestChaser minimizes human contact with disease-bearing rodents. One Unit Covers an Average Room This device is ideal for large-sized rooms, including kitchens, garages, attics, and basements. Ultrasonic sound cannot go around corners or penetrate hard surfaces like furniture, cabinets, walls, or ceilings. You will need one PestChaser unit for each room where you have a rodent problem. Inexpensive and Long-Lasting The Heavy-Duty PestChaser costs less than one cent a day to operate on a 24-hour basis, so you don't have to worry about keeping it plugged in at all times. The estimated service life of each unit is 5 to 7 years, and many PestChasers are still working after 10 or more years. Throughout that time, no adjustment or service is ever required. Seems to work - not perfectly silent to humans
I put one of these on my garage door opener. They are not very large. They are not silent to humans though. They are noisy click makers - something I can handle if it keeps out the rodents.

Works for about 7 months.
Worked really well to keep mice out of my jeep in storage till about a week ago(7 months total). Just stopped working no water got to it no damage from pests just stopped working. Maybe you'll have better luck but I'll be looking for a different brand to go with.

Seems to work
We have a small cottage in the Florida Keys that we use in the winter. Some family members use it during the year but for the most part it sits idle. In the Keys we have something that the locals call Tree Rats. They are definitely rats, but they are smaller and tend to behave more like other wild rodents (squirrels, racoons, etc.) If a house is marginally occupied that tend to nest in attics and roofs. Each year when we open pu we end up catching a few in our TomCat traps. We had already caught 2 when I set these up. These rats tend to nest in pairs so maybe we only had one pair? We also spreayd all likely area of entrance with Tomcat Repellent. So, I can't be 100% sure that this device worked, or whether there were only 2 rats or whether the repellent played any part. But so far, it's been on for about a month and no further rats have been caught and no sign that we have any. BTW it DOES make a low buzzing noise that can be heard by humans. It reminds of the noise the old TVs used to make. It's annoying but I got used to it. But I'm taking off one star for that,

Works great for mice, but slightly audible
After finding that my '63 Continental convertible had become a mouse metropolis while parked in our barn over last winter, I started trapping mice. After catching an average of 3 mice a DAY for two weeks, I decided to try one of these. I put this in two weeks ago and have caught exactly ZERO mice since, and seen no further evidence of mice. This thing kicks mouse butt. My barn is a modern steel one, with a concrete floor, and I have this positioned so that one speaker points along the front past the main door, and the other down a clear path on one side. I expect the concrete and steel help the sound reflect around the inside - I have traps placed all over the barn (24' x 36'). But it is not silent; it sounds something like a quiet refrigerator or old TV running. It is not very loud, and when my compact refrigerator in the barn turns on I can't hear it over the reefer. But I would not want it in my bedroom or in a room I was trying to work or watch TV in. We also have dogs and I would be concerned about how it might affect them. So it's an excellent device, I just knocked off a star for them saying it is silent when it is not really. I'm ordering another for a second outbuilding now. Winter is coming, and the mice will really start trying to move inside, so more time will tell how good these things really are - I'll update my review if they don't keep working. UPDATE 12/9/12: Cold weather did in fact turn up a few mice. I've trapped about 1 or 2 a week during the really cold weather, but still WAY down from before. The traps that got the mice were in places that were along a wall and shielded from the PestChaser, all the traps out in the building haven't caught any. The 2nd unit is in a stable with loose dirt floors, and it is less effective there. I have caught a few mice about 20' away in sight of the unit, but it's still worthwhile.

Happily surprised!
We got this to keep bunnies and mice out of the tack shed. I honestly was very skeptical. The bunnies were digging under my brick and causing walkway cave-ins. It worked. No more bunnies.

Noisy
I think the mouse is gone, but he has been hiding lately so I can’t be sure. The device makes an audible sound. If you play music or the TV loud, you can’t hear it, but if your listening to the TV at normal volume you can hear it and after a while it’s annoying. I try to remember to plug it in when I leave the house or go to sleep. I don’t hear it through the door. I’m still waiting to see if the mouse is gone. I didn’t see it for a week, and then it appeared 2 days in a row. Here’s hoping it’s gone.
