Best HVLP unit for the money. EZ setup and use.
I've used lesser quality HVLP sprayers before with mixed results. I have a cheapy Graco factory refurb and a new DSP 360 and used them for several projects, but now they both leak or won't spray correctly. Rather than drop a king's ransom on an Earlex or Fuji HVLP, I decided to give the Flexio 5000 a try, as the reviews seemed to be favorable. We are painting our kitchen (Kent Moore cabinets, not cheap stuff) and my wife is hand-priming the face frames in the kitchen whilst I took all of the drawers and doors out to the garage. We didn't want to mask off the kitchen to spray indoors. Everything was washed down with genuine TSP and then sanded with 320 grit 3M sandpaper and rinsed again. I got a gallon of Zinsser 123 primer and thinned it a little until it smoothly ran off the stirring stick. I tested the Detail gun on a flat surface, dialed in the power (about 50%) and started spraying. After priming about 18 doors, I have to say this is a *very* good HVLP spray unit! Since it is humid today (typical Houston spring with a little rain) I need to wait longer for the primer to dry, and then flip all the doors over to prime the fronts. I will edit this review once I have painted on the Behr Cabinet paint. I expect great performance with it too. Clean up is a breeze, and I do suggest the purchase of the cleaning brush set (I got the 22 piece set and it took me only a few minutes to clean up the gun and paint container. I did a full cleaning since it would be over an hour before I can continue spraying. Edit (as promised): This is getting better and better. We bought the Behr Cabinet, Door and Trim paint in the satin sheen. This paint brushes on like butter, but we're not talking about brushing, are we? It sprays on beautifully too, and without thinning! A few things I learned along the way. 1) Strain your paint ALWAYS, 2) Spray on first coat and note the finish when it dries. If a little rough, sand very lightly with 320 grit or higher, 3) Spray next coat a little more slowly to allow a somewhat thicker coat. The Behr Cabinet paint is self-leveling, but you have to make sure the coat is thick enough for that to happen, 4) Check the spray tip often and wipe off any build up, 5) Clean up the gun very thoroughly, even just between coats. We're talking about a very expensive paint job, and you want the sprayer in tip top condition for every coat. 6) The cleaning brush kit was a god-send and made clean up so much better,. In summary, this is a terrific spray kit for the price. If I was a professional cabinet maker, I would probably splurgh on a Fuji sprayer and spend upwards of $1500, but I am a weekend sawdust maker and this unit fits my budget AND gives me great results.

Pleasantly surprised
Picked up this unit to paint some cabinet doors and drawer covers I made. This unit is a snap to set up and easy to use. I used the small spraying unit in this kit as this job is small and didn't require the larger spray unit. I used water based latex paint. The instructions say this type of paint needn't be thinned, but I found that diluting the paint at least 10% gave me a finer spray and better coverage than using the paint straight out of the can. The spray bottle has marking on it so it made dilution easy to figure out. After some practice sprays and minor power adjustments I was ready to go. I did find that I needed to keep the air caps in a horizontal position. When placed in a vertical position, the lower air cap would get paint build up on it and when enough had collected, a blob would spit out on to my workpiece. After my first coats of paint, I covered the nozzle with a napkin soaked in water and covered this with a small plastic bag secured with a velcro band. I figured this would prevent the tip area from drying out. It seemed to work for me and I actually left the entire set up overnight and continued painting in the morning...with no issues! As for clean up, this machine shines. Absolutely simple and easy. Took only minutes to clean everything. With a nice storage case, the entire unit is compact and easily stowed. I haven't used the large spray unit yet so I can't comment on that, but thinking of spraying my garage door so that should work well for that type of job. I doubt I'd use this sprayer for inside walls and such as the prep work needed to handle any over spray is challenging. Because you will get some overspray. I used a spray tent inside my garage and still had some slight overspray issues. I did employ my wood shop air/dust filter to rid the air of overspray particles and found that did a good job in collecting airborne paint particles as the top filter captured a lot of particles. Overall this is a great machine for DIY guys like me. This results turned out good....better than had I used a roller. I highly recommend this unit. And don't forget to wear a good mask!! REVISED: Before starting this job and after unpacking everything I had discovered a small piece of plastic laying in the bottom of the unit case. I wasn't sure what it was or where it came from. I thought it was a left over piece of plastic from the injection process. I almost threw it away. After I finished my job with the small spray unit and packing everything away, I discovered that this small piece of plastic was part of the larger spray unit and was part of the locking mechanism to the hose/handle power unit! (see image) Without this part the large gun will not be secured properly to the hose unit. I contacted customer support and am hoping for a replacement part. Moral of story....check ALL items carefully when unpacking the unit.

Nice for diy
This is the first paint sprayer I have ever used. I found it very easy to operate and a much better finish than a paint brush. I recommend watching a few YouTube videos prior to using to get an idea of technique. I have only used on one project so far, the base of a dining room table. I painted it using Valspar oil enriched paint for furniture. I did not need to dilute the paint and got a very nice finish. I will use it next with stain for the top. I am happy with this purchase as this is way better than painting with a brush.

I expected more for the money. The atomization wasn't nearly as fine as the literature said it would be. The controls didn't seem to vary the end result like I expected.

Great sprayer. Used for refinishing kitchen cabinets.
Used Flexio 5000 for spraying cabinets and it worked well. Provided a smooth finish without brush / roller marks. I thinned both the primer and Benjamin Moore Advance paint by 10% and was able to get a good atomization and therefore a great looking finish. Cleaning is fairly easy but still takes some time to thoroughly clean. Also had a couple of issues with spray not auto shutting off when trigger was released. After manually moving the trigger back to off position multiple times it started working again and functioned as normal for duration of use. Had this happen 3 times. I recommend this sprayer for DIY projects.

Awful waste of time
If you think this is going to help save you time or make painting indoors easier forget it. The sheer amount of masking needed will take longer than rolling, not to mention clean up. It just might be the biggest waste of money I've ever been suckered into.

Defective or just bad?
I’m hoping I just got a defective item and have ordered a replacement, but the first one had multiple issues. The screw lid on the bottle did not sit flush even before use, it wouldn’t work once paint was in the bottle until I had to use excessive force with my friend and I getting it aligned, it then worked intermittently and finally just became ridiculous as if it was spitting non stop. The final removal of the bottle caused a bad cut to my right wrist over a surgery scar which is now causing nerve pain. And I’m left with a half painted porch. Amazing day. Let’s hope the next one shows signs of being functional before use otherwise it is going back. On the positive side of things, the instructions were very clear.

Loved it! Until it broke!!
Great sprayer! I have tried several as I spray furniture regularly. I found this easy to use and did a great job. My only complaint was it died within 4 months of use. I was so disappointed. To find one I really liked, but it didn’t last. I have no idea what happened. The parts(filters) are hard to find and order. I’d recommend, but beware it may only last a few months. Depends on what you need it for. Long term wise, it may not last. But for a big project, I’d definitely recommend. It finishes cabinets beautifully.

I would recommend it
I’ve only used it a couple of times since it’s too cold to paint. But works well

Good quality and reliable
This machine is totally worth its value. We have used to paint 52 windows trims , 40 doors with door casing and 2 full kitchens all cabinets painted with no problems at all. This machine performed very well and easy to clean.
