The Scarffer is a unique tool designed by boatbuilders for cutting accurate scarf joints in plywood up to 3/8″ thick. It attaches easily to most circular saws and is easily removed. Saw must have a base plate extension (outside of the blade) ½” or wider. Although there are several different kinds of scarf joints, we advocate using the simplest and most reliable approach, fabricating identical bevels at the ends of the pieces of plywood to be joined. Dry fit these matching bevels, and then permanently bond them with WEST SYSTEM® Epoxy. In many boatbuilding situations, we recommend a ratio of 8-to-1 to determine the size of the bevel. For example, when using 1/2″ (12.5 mm) plywood you need a 4″ long bevel.

Best tool for scarfing 1/4” ply.
This tool works great for scarfing 1/4” ply but if you get any thicker you have to use a plainer to finish it off. It also took quite a bit of tinkering to get it set up so have extra material on hand for test cuts. The end results were perfect scarff joints. I installed it on a dewalt saw, wouldn’t fit on my cheapo skil saw.

it cuts perfect scarf joints easily
A little spendy for how simple it is, but I cant complain, it cuts perfect scarf joints easily. Definitely glad I bought it. I messed around with a plainer and router, but with this you can cut a 4' scarf joint in probably 30 seconds. Just clamp a straight edge at 3 5\8 and cut. If you aren't a complete dufus, its easy to bolt on.

Attachment on my Ryobi (sp?) was not difficult as it had a cast aluminum base. It worked well on several practice runs.
