The tip broke off after a few weeks of use -- but I'll try again
Overall seemed like a great pole, very comparable to my wonderful old SwissGear pole I was replacing. But after less than a month of almost daily use (maybe 4-6 hikes per week), I noticed the carbide tip assembly was completely gone -- not just the tip, but the entire... well, whatever was there before. There are no pictures on Amazon showing the pole with the carbide tip visible, so I don't remember what it looked like. Anyway, there was just a bare pole left, with an open end, so unbeknownst to me it was filling with dirt and debris every time I stuck it into the ground. I'm sure this would have eventually mucked up the internal mechanism if I hadn't noticed the missing tip. And another odd thing -- the plastic piece near the bottom of the pole that you screw the baskets onto was cracked and broken, AND it appears to be on upside-down. I don't know if that could have contributed to the loss of the carbide tip or not, since I don't know how it was actually constructed. But, Amazon customer service says they're issuing a refund, so if/when that comes through, I'll order another one of these and I'll make sure it's put together correctly before I take it out on the trails. And then I'll update this review in a month or so, hopefully with a better outcome.
