Not close...
I purchased this switch to have better control over my outdoor lighting and to coincide with the sunsets and sunrises. The switch has a few problems that is not indicated in the description, and even worse customer service for Honeywell is pretty much useless. Setting the correct timed date, Latitude/Longitude and Adjustments, as well as, Daylight Savings Time adjustment is supposed to give times that correlate to sunset and sunrise for your area. Admittedly and average, but it should be close and work within reason. Having done that, the timer was off 6-8 minutes on actual sunsets and sunrises. An acceptable tolerance for sure. But amazingly, as we progress to even longer days (today being 04/19, and the longest day of the year being 06/21) instead of displaying a sunset time later to coincide, it is showing an earlier time for sunset! Actual sunset at time of install was 20:09; sunset on the device showed 20:04; Two days later actual sunset is 20:11, the device shows sunset at 20:02...See? Customer service says, "it is relative and approximate". Okay, why not engineer it to be 'approximate' in the right direction (increasing time to 06/21; then deceasing accordingly) at least. No answer. Well the work-around answer is that you have to game the system by adjusting your Longitude, and then the time moves closer to your actual ss/sr. If I had wanted a a random setting, then I would have chose that program. Also it shows in the cover material a ground wire. Well there is not a ground wire on this switch. You have to secure your old ground wire as it is not useable. Not a big deal, but the paper work in the package, and actual switch, and the installation manual are in discrepancy. Guess that's why company's have good lawyers for all their screw-ups.

Easy Set-Up and Works Great
I like mine and am glad I got it. It does just what we wanted and was easily installed and programmed. Several negative reviews had me a bit concerned about a few things. >> Would it fit in the switch box in the wall? >> Did it provide the flexibility I needed? >> Could I figure out how to do the programming? The answer to all of these is “Yes.” No problems whatsoever were encountered as I did the installation and set-up. Will it fit? Yes. The existing location was a duplex (2 switches) box which had the newer version square-ish flat switches installed. These take up more room in the box than the older, rocker-lever switches that have been around forever; hence, my concern about the size of this new switch. Another possible issue was the need to house more wiring in the box since the existing switch was a two-wire “push-in” terminal design with no wire nuts behind it to take up room. Given the 3-wire connection from the new timer switch I knew there would be at least one additional wire nut to fit in behind the switch. Bottom line on this item: Everything fit fine and there was no need for worry. Does it give me the flexibility I need? Yes. I wanted a switch that would automate the task of turning the front porch lights on/off when we were out of town and this one does just what I want and can be programmed for various modes of operation. I wanted the porch lights to be on from dusk to dawn. This switch allows for (get this) telling it the latitude and longitude of your house (a chart of locations I included that gives you the coordinates) and given the date it knows the time of sunset and sunrise for any particular day and automatically adjusts the on/off times accordingly without any tweaks by me. It also has a manual push-button that allows you to manually turn the light on or off as you wish. Other programming options are available, also. Could I figure out how to do the programming? Absolutely. All of the negative comments about how difficult it is to program this thing are totally unwarranted. Just read the instructions and it is straightforward. Actually, I just started poking around and got it set almost completely before I picked up the instructions. Had I read them first it would have been even easier. Further, AFTER I had read the instructions I found a chart in the very middle of the stack of instruction sheets (various languages) that showed all of the steps in a graphical form and should make set-up even easier. I still recommend reading the instructions through first and then referring to the chart. By the way, the latitude and longitude coordinates for various cities are on the BACK of the set-up chart sheet so go to the middle of the stack and find that sheet first to refer to as you read through the instructions. Note that as you do the set-up (assuming you are using dusk-to-dawn operation) as you click through to that part of the settings, the display on the switch will show an “On” time of something like 5:24 p.m. and that might seem odd. It did to me until I realized that was the actual time for that particular evening that the lights would come on. It was not a set time; it would change every day as sun-time changed. Ditto for “Off” time. I like mine and am glad I got it. It does just what we wanted and was easily installed and programmed.

More expensive than other model but well worth it!
I originally ordered more basic model and the version which requires to have a load of min 40W to be inline to provide enough power to the switch to operate. I had to return that one because I needed something for LED outdoor lights. When looking for a replacement I found out this version which uses load+neutral wires to power itself up and does not depend on the presence of any load inline (red blister packages). Luckily I had both wires in my switch box. This is also more expensive but much better model, which supports daylight savings and also astronomical time at your place to determine sunset and sunrise time. The accuracy is the whole degree of latitude or longitude, but that is more than enough to set the perfect time when to lit up your front yard lights right at the sunset every single day entire year without ever adjusting the settings. Well, maybe you would have to adjust the time once in a while - time will tell how much of a drift internal clock has. I wish this switch would have atomic clock embedded on top of all the good things it has already. I set mine to lit up at sunset and switch off some time after midnight. But it also supports dusk till dawn operation. I really love how it works and also how it looks and feels. It is even better in real life than on a picture. The only little grief is a grey area around the clock icon on display (Display is more neutral white than appears on the photo). The almond colour is also perfect match with another manufacturers switches and frames as you can see on the picture. It is one of the best purchases I made recently. Worth every penny.
