The Code is what hurt my Rating….

Leviton makes good quality devices - and this is no exception. But regulations sometimes tie the hands of manufacturers or force designing options on their products that can lessen the product’s ease of use - which obligates them to pass on the issue to the installers and consumers. The “pro’s” of this receptacle exceed most, (if not all) of the competitors making similar products. The materials used - from their bodies, to the contacts, and even the fasteners - are of the highest quality you will find among the competition. The latest electrical code “fad” to hit receptacles in many applications seems to be this thing called “tamper resistent” slots, which ideally would only block curious hands from harm, rather than inconvenience the mature adult end user. The modification to the design will slow down mischievous kids all lining up to stick a butter knife - or other similar tools into the receptacle for curiosity sake. - Honestly, the mechanism employed does well to block such follies, due to the way the design blocks a foreign probe entry, unless both the hot and neutral plug pongs are inserted similtaneously. But the downside is - until the receptacle is worn sufficiently (or “losens up” a bit) - plugging into it is a real PITA, requiring quite a considerable force. And frankly, I personally wish it wasn’t so - but then again - I never liked GFCI receptacles either, which (IMO) killed reliability and dependability due to their extreme sensitivity repeatedly tripping them prematurely. But since all manufacturers are bound to honor the same code, I don’t hold it against Leviton nor will I allow it to taint this review. This receptacle is excellent overall - and if properly specified and installed, it will undoubtedly serve its purpose and provide many years of flawless operation. I recommend it.

Didn't hold on to what I plugged in

I installed this at an outdoor outlet. After a couple of uses it no longer held on to the cords I would plug in. They didn't fall completely out, just halfway, so the tools I tried to use would get no power. When I bought this item, I knew it was the Tamper Resistant type. I never forced my cord-end into it, but I suspect that something about this TR feature is interfering with a snug fit.
