PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Leave your windows open without fear of accidents thanks to this S 4764 steel fixed window guard. It can help prevent accidental falls from children and provide additional child safety measures so you can rest easy with little ones in your home. It’s the perfect addition to any high-rise apartment, building or two-story home. It does not meet egress, and should not be used in bedrooms or sleeping areas where no other emergency exit is accessible. This steel fixed window guard has 4 bars and can be used on a variety of window sizes – the width adjusts for 23-1/2” to 40” wide windows and has a fixed height of 21-3/8”. Installation is easy and it comes with one-way, tamper-proof installation screws. This child fall window guard meets New York City and New Jersey’s housing codes, and it was approved by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, HDWG #04-09-2010, but it does not meet egress. This is a “fixed window guard,” meaning that once it’s been installed it cannot be opened nor easily removed in the event of an emergency where entry or exit through the window would be required. For this reason, THIS FIXED WINDOW GUARD SHOULD NOT BE USED IN BEDROOMS OR SLEEPING QUARTERS WHERE NO OTHER EMERGENCY EXIT IS ACCESSIBLE. Solid, affordable extra layer to my home security setup

My house is set up in such a way that all of the windows are easily visible to both of my neighbors and to passers-by on the street, so that anyone who tries breaking into my home when I'm not around will be readily seen. All, that is, except for one particular bedroom window I have near the back of the house, which is blocked from neighbor/street view by a storage shed, and is at ground level (one-story home). I saw this as a glaring weak point in my home's security, and this window guard was EXACTLY what I needed to fix it. I had this thing in place and mounted in less than 10 minutes total. The screws that are included with this are one-way screws of questionable strength and quality, and I didn't want to chance running one halfway in and then having it get stuck or snap off and having no way to back it out, so I used my own. Just stuck the assembly up in place, pre-drilled holes in the window frame, and then ran some heavy-duty 3-inch screws into the studs (Camo brand screws, which are VERY strong and use Torx bit heads). DONE! This guard is VERY secure and will certainly deter most any smash-and-grab punk that tries to target my home for stealing stuff to sell for drug money. No home security is theft-proof, but as of right now, the only way someone is getting into my place easily is if they decide to tunnel underneath and cut a hole in the floor to get inside, or they just use a chainsaw to cut a hole in the back wall. LOL

Extra security

I bought 18 of these bars in various lengths and widths for extra security on my rear, side, and basement windows. I live on a 1.5 acre lot with a wooded area behind me that's pitch black at night. A previous house by my wife was broken into a few years back with 2ft of snow on the ground in broad daylight so I take security seriously. The bars blend in with the white wood blinds and vinyl window casing so they are not noticeable until you get really close up on them. My only issue is all of the bars I received from Amazon, the clear plastic surrounding them was torn and the small plastic bag containing the screws attached to one of the bars by a zip-tie all had holes in them. Not all of the screws came with the bars and others the screws were scattered throughout the shipping box. I don't look at this as a Amazon issue but more of an issue with the cheap packing by the manufacture. The bars serve their purpose but be aware you will have to purchase screws to install them.

Definitely not falling out this window

We got these for our childs room because it is a very dangerous fall onto concrete if she fell out. And they work great. We have odd sized windows so it doesn't fit length wise but it does fit up and down. And in case of fure their is room to bust the window out and still escape.

Sturdy with some drawbacks

Product is strong and will do the job. Only gave it 2-Stars because: 1) I bought this in white to match the white trim on the inside of the window/wall. Within a week of use it has started to rust. 2) It is hard to tell from the pictures but as you adjust the width wider there is then larger openings because the vertical bars are fixed. So, one side of the guard has much larger openings. Opinion/Suggestion: if you care more about the looks from the inside get whatever color you prefer or that matches your house. But if you want them to be less visible to people looking at your house from the outside I suggest getting the guard in black. The black color will get lost in the black of the screen I think whereas my white guard stands out from down the street.
