Awesome replacement for Mortise-style lock for older houses.
My older Russwin brand mortise lock had worn out (house was built in 1941) and it used a non-standard key (could not make a copy anywhere local). Locksmiths all quoted ridiculous prices to replace my existing lock (several hundred dollars). Replacing the door was even more money (several thousand dollars). I took my old one out, measured it, and was able to find its replacement for a fraction of what the local locksmiths wanted. (Thank you Amazon!) Its very sturdy and well made (its heavy --- very solid construction), has a nice finish, and was a simple drop-in replacement for my door. Please be aware that all mortise-style locks are not physically identical for thickness/offsets/etc. I had to take my old one out of the door, measure everything (lock depth/height/offsets/etc) and then find a brand and model that matched. If you don't do this, you will be unhappy when the new one does not fit... I am very happy with my purchase and recommend this brand.

Direct replacement for my old door
Fit directly in my old door slot and it's good for the money and easy to install, but the screw on the door knob constantly unscrews itself and has to be retightened. Also, would be nice to have a key number to have matching keys for the rear door as well, which is not provided.

Door may be just a little too thick for this lock set.
It was a bit difficult. Door might have been a little too thick. We finally barely got the barrel to screw in and then it s didn’t quite work right. We left it in because it was better than a hole in the door for the time being. Basically just acts like a prop.

Great Value
This is a great value. Other metal set costs $350+. This aligned perfectly with the existing strike plate and mortise opening. I had to make slight modifications with a wood chisel. After finally figuring out how to unscrew and remove the old set, remove the key lock from the new set, installation was a breeze! Please note that the plate is made of thin metal (likely aluminum) but all other pieces are heavy metal and very sturdy. This set is interchangeable for right-hand or left-hand door. Directions were easy to follow with diagrams and instructions in various languages.

Set screws back out knob unscrews off
The set screws back out and the knob unscrews all the way off, and people can get stuck inside the room unless they have a screwdriver or something handy to push the latch so it opens

Door is just a bit too thick for this lock
Like another reviewer, I need to replace a mortise lock for want of a thumb-turn on an ancient door. This set was nearly a match-- the knob, lock & thumb-turn holes all lined up fine. But the door itself is just a bit too thick, so that it was not possible to install the cylinder using the exterior face-plates given, so I returned it. The old lock had nearly flat face-plates. Otherwise, it seems like a decent consumer-grade lock-set. Not commerical-quality, but it's not priced for that either so OK. I'd have kept it if it fit.

Nicely built lockset, and relatively easy to install
I've owned my house for 8 years, and it hadn't occurred to me until a few days ago to figure out the kind of lock set that was intended for an exterior storage door missing its locks. Amazon led me towards mortise lock sets, and with a few measurements, to this particular model. I was able to "mostly" install it within an hour, and completely install it in less than 2 hours. Installation was sped up by the purchase of an uncut key blank at Lowe's, which I used as something to grasp to screw the lock cylinder in to the lock body. All of the necessary screws and gaskets were in the package, and if replacing a similar piece, a Phillips screwdriver may be the only tool you'll need. Lock operation is smooth, and it's good to know that spare keys can be made easily. I'll say appearance is a 7 out of 10... quite nice for its price point, but not a substitute for Baldwin or other premium mortise sets.

Knob set screws backing out
I liked I found a combo of a mortise door handle with the lock of a modern door would give a higher rating but the 2 of the 4 set screws for the know would keep coming loose no matter how much I've tighten them down.
