Excellent for day, but mediocre for night.
The picture quality and sensitivity of the motion device is excellent in the day time...so much so that I had to move the bird feeder out of view. At night however, you can only see about 20 feet, and at 20 feet away, identifying the perpetrator would be extremely difficult. The motion detection capability at night is about 10 feet tops. I will be looking into some of the more advanced Swann cameras that are compatible with my unit. UPDATE- I inquired about getting better cameras and I was told you can't for this unit, because it's discontinued.

This model is a lemon
As a previous Swann product user (happy with unit) I upgraded my old DVR to this one. I just use simple surviellance being able to see if anything has happened rather than be really proactive getting alerts and notifications. What I found in the 4580 is that there seems to be software/hardware isses that causes problems with recognizing my cameras and the most problematic, no pre-recording. In other words, if an event happens, most DVRs will allow you to see at least 30 seconds prior to the camera alerting so you can get the whole event. My system will not do this and consequently I can only see people leaving the frame as opposed to seeing them enter and leave. I have also run a miriad of tests and found that at night sometimes a few of the cameras would not alert at all. The conditions have been in north florida during spring so there hasn't been any extraordinary heat nor cold, as I know this can affect some things. THere is no pattern in the failures...completely random. Many calls to tech support availed nothing so Swann is replacing my unit with the 8 channel version. After a lot of research, I hear this is the common response from Swann for the issues I was having so it leads me to believe that this model, or at least the iteration that I purchased, is faulty and a lemon. I give only 2 stars because of the warranty to replace it with an upgraded unit. We'll see if it solved the problem.

Excellent cameras...it is all about the heat detection!
Excellent product n very easy to install. I had as mother set of cameras n returned them as they gave me an alert with every snowflake that fell! These cameras are best activated n motion detection is excellent! I called customer support a few times with help on the software configuration. Got right thru to a tech n the support was great! Dont waste your time n money on other csmeras....these are well priced n superior to others on the market!

Excellent money spent arrived as advertised
The security system arrived on time, easy to set up. The camera is worth the extra money spent. I had a cheaper camera setup and it just failed after a year. I took additional insurance for the cheaper setup. The setup and search features is excellent actually..... search has thumbnails which is awesome.

Good value for money but beware
I've had this set for a year. Very easy to set up, picture quality is very good, the night vision is also good. App updates have improved the usability. Issues, the sensitivity settings aren't the best, whilst you can select areas you want to turn off for picking activity, say the main road, as soon as its night it triggers when anything moves. Small gripe given its more for deterrent. The last thing to be aware of, certainly for me is that 2 of my 4 cameras (I got an extra 2) failed 12 months on. Both were full of water that appears to have got through the weather proof gasket via the screw holes since they were both pointing at a downward angle. Warranty replaced with no issue so customer service was great. 4 circles of waterproof tape or some sealant I would suggest to prevent this.

Easy to use CCTV with simple setup
I purchased this two camera system for my home. I also purchased power line extenders (TP-Link TL-PA4010KIT) so I could connect the CCTV system to my router which is in another room (without the need to run a long network cable). You need to connect to your router if you want to see the system on your smartphone. It's very easy to set up. Needs a system password which it requests all the time so make it strong but not too long. It's wall mountable, comes with a mouse and does not need a keyboard as it uses an on-screen one. I'm still learning the software so will update on that at a later date.

great quality camera system
I decided to install a CCTV system I chose this particular system as it say's you can do it yourself or pay a professional to install it. I found the installation to be very simple, instructions were very understandable and everything works a treat. Great buy and the cost to have them installed professionally would almost pay for the system. So if you are competent with following instructions and with the tools needed then get this system and do it yourself. I highly recommend this system to anyone.

Excellent Home CCTV Kit
I purchased this Swann CCTV kit following a recommendation from a friend and am glad I did. The system is very easy to set up and has lots of useful features, such as the ability to automatically save footage to the cloud as well as the hard drive and a smartphone. Alerts and recording settings can be set differently for each camera, which is useful in practice. The picture quality is excellent both in daylight and at night. The Swann app is easy to set up and provides a live view of all cameras, as well as quick access to the last 2 weeks of footage on your phone. I have since added a wi-fi camera to the system, which can be viewed using the app along with the fixed cameras. I would not hesitate to recommend this product.
