The Venturer is a compact, easy-to-set-up time-based brake controller. It can be mounted at any angle and has an automatic power level adjustment feature. It can operate one to three axles at a time, meaning two to six brakes, and has an LED display for monitoring brake pressure. Venturer is compatible with anti-lock brakes. This CURT trailer brake controller is designed to work with quick plugs so it can readily plug into your vehicle's original equipment socket. It also includes a mounting bracket and hardware for easy installation. A brake controller should be mounted somewhere on the dash of your vehicle, and we recommend putting it below the steering wheel, either on the right or left side of the steering column. This way the control will not block your view when driving, but it will remain accessible and visible when adjustment is needed.

Basic brake controller
First off, if you are going to use this or any other Curt brake controller, get the Curt pigtail to wire into your truck. Curt has some that just tee into existing wiring for common tow vehicles. Mine was old enough (an old 1994 Dodge Cummins) I couldn't find one listed, so I just got a generic pigtail and wired it in. Once you get the pigtail wired in properly, finishing the hookup is as simple as mounting the controller and plugging it in. If you ever get another Curt controller, or if it goes bad and needs to be replaced, you simply plug in the new one to the existing pigtail. Couldn't be simpler. Now to the controller itself. It is a very basic controller, with two adjustments. One adjustment sets the maximum braking force and the other adjustment adjusts how quickly or aggressively it gets there. The adjustments are very straightforward, but a little touchy, it seems like a small amount of movement on the levers can make a big difference in actuation, but it isn't bad once you get used to it. Braking power is indicated by a row of little LEDs that light up incrementally as braking power increases. This controller has some sort of internal timer, as you can see when you first apply the brakes, only one light comes on initially, and then over time more bars light up and braking power increases. Use the adjustment on top to set the maximum braking power applied, and use the adjustment on the side, to set how fast or slow it gets there. You will likely have to adjust at least the top lever when going from loaded to empty, and settings vary from trailer to trailer. I have two trailers, and the settings are different for both, so you will need to experiment a little to see what works best for you. One neat feature I like about it, is that when it is working properly, but no trailer is plugged in, a little green dot lights up when you step on the brake, to indicate it is wired properly. When you plug the trailer in, it senses it somehow, and then the display changes over to the LED power indicator bars. There is a red light that is supposed to light up if it detects an error in either the wiring or the trailer brakes. I say supposed to because so far it has always worked right, and I have yet to see the red light. If you think simpler is better, you will probably like this controller. Just wire it in, set the adjustments and go. I have seen controllers that supposedly 'self calibrate' to your trailer and they sometimes cause more problems than they solve.

Simple trailer brake module
Gives constant, reliable pressure to trailer with tandem axles. Simple to adjust pressure and manually trip brakes if hazard stop is needed.

Works well, very sensitive
There's no fine tuning on this thing. So far I have either had barely any brake or my tires lock up as soon as I try to stop (with the trailer loaded). Found a very small sweet spot that I'm happy with and it will work for my upcoming trip but will probably upgrade to the inertia-based controller soon. Gets the job done, if youre hauling on a budget this one will stop you.

The lights won't work- but the brake controller works a little if I move the knob over all the way.

Cheap and works like a cheap one.... but it does work
Super easy instal. It does the job but I find it’s either waaaaay to sensitive or doing nothing. Fine tuning the initial bite upon depressing the pedal just doesn’t really exist. It’s cheap, works like a cheap one, but it does activates the brakes In the end that’s all that matters.

easy install
not best quality, manual slider sticks occasionally and stays "On"... I suspect I will have to reach out to Manufacture and see if there is a "fix" or obtain replacement
