Keep your wooden cutting boards and butcher blocks in prime condition with John Boos Block Mystery Oil. Once a month, apply an even coat of NSF Approved John Boos Mystery Oil to your cutting board or butcher block and allow it to soak in overnight. Allow the Mystery oil to fully penetrate through the wood fibers overnight, then wipe off any excess oil. Apply additional oil to any visible dry spots or for any other necessary reasons. Do not over oil your cutting board. Repeat this process more often when the board is brand new and “thirsty,” or if you live in a dry, arid climate. John Boos recommends applying John Boos Board Cream (sold separately) to seal the top of the wood surface after applying the Mystery Oil. A few quick minutes of regular oil application will ensure your new board is properly seasoned, and ready for work! Applied every three to four weeks, John Boos Mystery Oil prevents wood from drying, splitting, or cracking. Mystery Oil is safe for food preparation surfaces and can also be used to maintain wood countertops and wooden kitchen tools. Proudly Made in the USA of all Natural ingredients. NSF certified.

Somewhat of a True Story...
So for Christmas of 2020 I received a large wooden bowl as a gift. My Mom knew I wanted a really big wooden bowl and she came through for me. It's beautiful! One thing I learned when researching wooden bowls is that you have to oil it often, kind of like a body builder lathering it on. OK calm down, cool off. Didn't mean to get you all stimulated with a visual... Anyway, I read the reviews for this stuff and I bought it. I have to say the price was a little steep considering the price of other wood safe/food safe oils. But I bought. It arrived on a crazy busy day when I had a laundry list of stuff to do. For heaven's sake I didn't have time to oil my bowl that day... I had other things to oil ;) I put the bottle in the back of my cupboard and shut the door. That poor, lonely bottle sat there for a long time. As the days went on, I completely forgot that I needed to oil my bowl. Oh geez, it was 6 months later when I took a job in Florida that I found it. I will never forget that fateful day. I was cleaning out my cupboards and boxing up my kitchen belongings in preparation for the move. I reached in the back of the cupboard and there it was... my bottle of BOOS! The number of expletives I let out was down right embarrassing! I screamed at the top of my lungs I was so angry and frustrated with myself. Without the thought of what would happen, I ragingly threw the bottle of BOOS across the loft apartment where it crashed into the wall. The next thing I knew there was BOOS everywhere! More BOOS than Halloween! It took me an hour to clean it all up. And then the wall. That poor wall. IT stained my wall! My landlord was not happy. I had to pay $375 for them to replace the drywall. And the worse part was my bowl never got oiled! So here I am, in July of 2021. I'm on Amazon writing reviews for products I purchased and received over the last 12 months and I see BOOS! I'm angry all over again. Not only do I not have anymore BOOS, I still haven't oiled my bowl! I can't say if BOOS works or not. But I can say I'm going to order another bottle today. I'll let you know next week if it works. That is if I don't put the bottle in the cupboard because the day is a crazy day and I have a laundry list of things to do. Oh Lord, that better not happen... I can't handle it!

Looking to maintain and preserve your wooden kitchen items?
I am extremely impressed with the quality of John Boos Mystery Butcher Block Oil. I have been using it on all of my wooden kitchen tools and cutting boards and have noticed a significant improvement in their overall appearance and performance. The oil is easy to apply and absorbs quickly, leaving a protective barrier that keeps my items looking and feeling new. The 16 ounce bottle is a great value and will last me a long time. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to maintain and preserve their wooden kitchen items.

Recommend
The product does it’s intended job of maintaining or rejuvenating wood cutting boards. I’m a bit skeptical of the “mystery” aspect of this product…I think it’s a marketing gimmick used by Boos to artificially inflate the price.

Beautiful Finnish...
Works beautifully... As does the finishing cream of the same name... Boo's. Highly recommended.

Good Oil
It went on smoothly. It was not sticky or thick like most I have used. Easily soaked into wood.

I'll buy it again
I bought this to use on my BoosBlock. It's made by them so should be as good as it comes.I've previously been using another mineral block oil but will be changing over to this one now. It leaves the block looking revitalised and back to it's beautiful self.

Expensive but does it's job.
Excellent product, wish there were Indian makes to choose from but if you need food grade mineral oil this seems to be the only item available. If someone reading this knows of an Indian outlet that sells food grade mineral oil please leave a reply.

At the end of the day its food grade mineral oil, but it's an effective and convenient one
At the end of the day to treat your butcher block all you need is a food safe mineral oil, and this is that in spades - if there's any additives above and beyond that I have absolutely no idea, but I've found when this goes on sale its a damned hard price point to beat for its size. It's going to last you a long time, its effective, and its in a very convenient container with a pour spout.

Magical product
This will turn your boards (even the dull Ikea ones) into TV cooking show ready! Remember the combination of oil and cream. Be patient... you need to wait 24 hours from applying the oil to applying the cream. Every two months is perfect
